As a worthy successor to the legendary E-Type Jaguar, the new F-Type sports car could hardly be better, retaining as it does elements of that original icon in a 21st Century design. In short, it’s fabulous. The two-seat sports car offers a perfect balance of performance and driver reward with a muscular, assertive design and a cabin defined by rich, luxurious materials and beautiful details. Several Jaguar models, including this desirable car and the F-Pace SUV are available to import from Japan through the MHH Japanese Cars website.

On The Inside

With a choice of coupé or convertible body styles, the interior offers a modern, cocooning design with plush-looking materials and some neat design details. Drop down into the F-Type’s low-slung sports seats behind the purposeful-looking dashboard with the leather steering wheel and shift paddles, ready for action. The instrument panel is heavily cowled with two large dials with a central display, while a (non-essential but hugely desirable) starter button is ready and waiting. Getting in is an experience in itself and there’s enough luggage space in the trunk (boot) for a long-weekend away.

The Jaguar F-Type offers more driver-focused technology, including a reconfigurable, high-definition, 12.3” Interactive Driver Display, Touch Pro infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard and software-over-the-air functionality so future software updates can be made at the customer’s convenience, without having to visit a retailer. Two superb Meridian sound systems also offer enhanced sound reproduction. This technology will vary regionally, so some models may differ.

On The Road

The range of powerful, responsive engines are all matched to eight-speed Quickshift transmissions with full manual control using either the ‘SportShift’ gear selector or the steering wheel-mounted paddles. The paddles are great for manual control but the auto is just so good that manual shifts seem superfluous. In Sport mode the shifts are quicker, and by moving the lever over and engaging dynamic mode will see the gearbox hold on to the gears for longer before shifting up, and throttle response is sharpened even further.

The steering wheel is a generous size delivering a very communicative and nicely weighted drive. Whichever model or engine option is selected, there’s always enough power to pin the passengers back in the seat and all with a pleasing aural soundtrack.

One of the high points of this car is the ride. It is extremely compliant for a sports car and the F-Type maintains its composure no matter the quality of the road surface. This means the driver can focus on confidently steering from one corner to the next without discomfort.
