The robust Nissan X-Trail has been a popular choice in various versions since the Millennium, which, if you remember, was the year when nothing went wrong despite all the predictions of doom. In fact, the Year 2000 brought us this excellent SUV and during that time the car has sold consistent to well to people who appreciate the Nissan way. It has evolved over the years and remains hugely popular to this day.

As far as the styling is concerned the Nissan X-Trail joins the fashionable trend, looking similar to other brands, but has at least some curvy, quality styling touches.

Obviously, variations will be regionally dependent globally so not all models will have the all of the features mentioned here. The model featured has a European specification but the car is broadly similar wherever you are in the world so there’s sure to be the right X-Trail for you.

About The Nissan X-Trail

The X-Trail’s all-wheel-drive set-up is an adaptive system switching between the more economical front-wheel drive setting or the automatic mode which will only send power to the back wheels When the driving conditions demand it. For the really rough stuff there's a 4x4 lock. There’s even an on-screen graphic to show what the drive is doing.

Engine options include 1.6L diesel and 2.0L engines. In the upmarket Tekna variant there was the added attraction of a substantial trunk with two extra fold-out rumble seats in the floor. Both engines have plenty of torque and pulling power but for towing trailers and the like then the bigger engine performs better.

Inside The Nissan X-Trail

The interior is attractive and well finished and has obviously been given some thought. Some models will feature touches like a panoramic roof which really brightens the interior. LED interior lighting, gloss black trim and all the usual technology accessories (optionally) create a really nice passenger environment.

Some SUVs have a tendency to handle corners like an ice-skating whale on a frozen sea. Fortunately the X-Trail is surprisingly refined when on the move.

Being effortless to drive this big SUV seems just like driving a regular hatchback. Drive is through a very good six speed manual gearbox or a CVT (Constantly Variable Transmission), a popular development from many car makers these days.
